How to measure size for cello

Measuring cello size has two methods, arm length and player’s height. Some players may be taller, but their arm length is relatively short, you can refer to the arm length chart to check. The arm length measure method is the same as the violin/viola, extend your left/right arm completely parallel to the floor with the palm facing up, and use the tape measure or yardstick to measure from your neck to the centre of palm distance.

If you could have a cello to try, please find a chair that you can sit at the end of it and your feet could be flat on the floor with your leg’s 90-degree bent. Extend the endpin, put the instruments between your legs and the fingerboard beyond your shoulder, and let the cello’s top body edge be rested in the chest centre when it was leaning against your body at a 45 degree. The C string’s peg is roughly in line with your ear, make sure you can reach the fingerboard end easily, this will be a suitable size for you.
